New Orleans RBG Flag

Regular price $25.00 Sale

In honor of New Orleans' Tricentennial and the contributions that Black people have made to the city, the New Orleans flag shirt pays homage to our ancestors who built New Orleans throughout the city's 300 years. A portion of proceeds from this shirt will go to Take 'Em Down NOLA, who works to ensure that symbols of white supremacy no longer have a place in New Orleans. http://takeemdownnola.org/

The RBG Flag (UNIA Flag) was created in 1920 by Marcus Garvey and the United Negro Improvement Association. It has become a symbol of Black pride and Black liberation for decades. The colors symbolize the following:

RED: the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation;

BLACK: black people whose existence as a nation, though not a nation-state, is affirmed by the existence of the flag; and

GREEN: the abundant natural wealth of Africa.

The GOLD displayed on the Fleur de lis, acknowledges the symbol's troubled history in France and Louisiana and the wealth created and stolen off the backs of Black people over generations.
